do i have a virus - When I open Internet Explorer it loads a blank page that says about:Blank

i'm having a problem with logging on.
when i press the explorer logo to excess the internet it goes to a blank page with about blank in the box, so i have to go to my recent history to find a homepage when it do that before it went right to my homepage
does that mean that my computer has been infected with a registry virus or infected period my virus protection shows that i'm protected and didn't have this problem in the begining why now

Step 2: If you suspect that the computer is infected, then run a virus scan

Run CHKDSK

• Go to the Start button.
• In the Search box, type "cmd" (without quotes) and press Enter.
• At the command prompt, type "chkdsk /r /f" (without quotes) and press Enter.
• Restart your computer.
