Months ago I discovered a trojan while scanning for malware and removed it. Ever since I have had some issues with certain programs like my home network and updates or uninstalls of programs. I've been dealing with the issue since it is not too large
of a inconvenience and I'm trying to find an answer to avoid a reinstall of Windows. In a previous question pertaining to error codes 2502 and 2503 that pop up during the updates and uninstalls, I was instructed to check the permissions on the system. I
followed the instructions given but could not change the permissions. I was told by a friend who is more computer savvy than I that the only way to correct this is to do a re-install of Windows. Obviously I would prefer not to go through the hassle of a
re-install and the work of reinstalling programs afterwards. Does anyone have any ideas?

Method 1

Unregister Windows Installer, and then reregister Windows Installer.

a) On the "Start" menu, click "Run.
b) In the "Open" box, type "msiexec /unreg", and then press ENTER.
c) On the "Start" menu, click "Run".
d) In the "Open" box, type "msiexec /regserver", and then press ENTER.

Method 2

Check permissions within the Installer folder.

a.
Click on Start and in the Start Search bar > type in > c: /windows/installer.
b.
Right click on c: /windows/installer at the top under programs and click properties.
c.
Click on the security tab > Verify if System and Administrator account has Full access permissions.
d.
The Everyone account should have read and execute permissions, List Folder Contents, and Read.

To check for Windows updates

Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking All Programs, and then clicking Windows Update.
In the left pane, click Check for updates, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your computer.
If any updates are found, click Install updates. Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
