Cannot end process on some gaming programs...

I recently installed Windows 7, and previously used Windows XP.  I play a game called Asda Story, currently floundering between beta and live.  My problem is that when it bugs out and freezes, and I go to desktop to shut down the program, in windows XP
I hit end process and it shut it down immediately.  In windows 7 it says "cannot end process" and won't shut down the program.  It won't shut it down from either programs or process tabs in the task manager.  This has also happened occassionally in Fallout
3 when that game freezes up.  I bring up task manager and it won't let me shut down the game.  No matter what the process is, if I hit "end process" it should end the process.  Why doesn't this work in Windows 7 sometimes?

It happens because the crashing program takes down enough of the system so that the usual tools don't work.
There's not too much you can do except don't run those programs.
Trying to run alpha/beta software often causes severe problems and is not recommended

Manually editing the Windows registry
