Troubleshooting:backup to external drive Error

I want to backup my computer to an external hard drive.  Microsoft instructions tell me to go to Accessories > System Tools > Backup.  I have Accessories and System Tools, but there is no "Backup" item on the next menu.  Is there another way to do a backup
in XP?  Will "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" do a backup?
