Automatic updates to Windows 7 do not install. The updates install when turning off the computer, but upon configuration after the computer is restarted, a message appears that the computer has "reverted" to previous configuration.

There are 11 updates that are "re-installed" every time I shut down the computer.  Upon startup there are approx 57000 configuration actions taking place.
Then the Windows 7 startup screen comes up and a message states "Do not turn off your computer.  syster is being configured".  (or something to that effect.)
Then a title comes up stating 35$% complete.  Shortly after that the message changes to "Update failed" "system is reverted to previous configuration"
As a result, the computer restarts itself every night from sleep mode and reboots with the same results.
