Auto-fit row height overrides filter

I'm not sure I'm using the right terminology, but I'll describe what I'm trying to do ...

I'm working with worksheets containing a lot of text in wrapped cells.
I sometimes widen the width of columns to when I see that cells are becoming too tall because cells have a a lot of text in them.
I do a control-A, then double-click on a row border
at the left of the screen.
That adjusts all the row heights, as I  want.
But it also overrides any filter that's in effect, so that rows which are hidden because of the filter suddenly become visible.
I can reapply the filter to hide them again.
But still,
it's puzzling that adjusting row height should override a filter.

Is there a way to adjust row heights to auto-fit all the wrapped text, without overriding the filter?
