Solution to Error: 1.Click the Start button , click Control Panel, click Hardware and Sound, and then click Bluetooth Devices.

1.Click the Start button , click Control Panel, click Hardware and Sound, and then click Bluetooth Devices.

This Toshiba Satellite has new Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit OS.
It used to have no problems with bluetooth connectivity, but now it doesn't see any bluetooth devices.
Under the Hardware and Sound drop down in Control Panel, Bluetooth doesn't even exist any more.
Where has it gone, and how do I fix it?
I've searched with the Add Device tool, with no luck, even though the headset I'm trying to connect to has no problems with my phone.
So I know the unit is discoverable, and turned on, I've tried everything that has been recommended, but with no success.
Please help.

Hi Craig,

Firstly, if you have a switch on the laptop to turn on/off
Wi-Fi\Bluetooth, try switching it on and check if it makes any difference.

If the issue persists, I would suggest you to try the following steps:

Step 1: Run Bluetooth control panel application

Click on the start button > type in bthprops.cpl
in the search box and press enter.

Step 2: Make sure Bluetooth Support
Service is set to automatic and started.
To do this, follow these steps:
1.    Click on Start-Run, type
services.msc, the click on OK.

2.    When the Services window loads, navigate to the
" Bluetooth Support
Service ", the double click on it to open it,
3.    Make sure the "Startup Type" says "Automatic" and
started.
If it doesn't, use the drop down menu to change it.
4.    If it already says: "Automatic", then click on the
"Recovery" tab at the top, and change the "First Failure" line to "Restart the Service", then click on "apply", then OK.
If the issue persists,
You may follow the steps mentioned in the link below to add the missing registry entry for the Bluetooth Support Service in the Windows registry

You receive an error message immediately after you install the USB transceiver for a Microsoft keyboard or optical mouse to configure Bluetooth on a Windows XP SP2-based computer

Manually editing the Windows registry

Caution: Unless you an advanced PC user, please do not edit the Windows registry manually.

Because of this risk, we highly recommend using a trusted registry cleaner such as SmartPCFixer Using a registry cleaner automates the process of finding invalid registry entries, missing file references (like the one causing your MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION error), and broken links within the registry. A backup is automatically created before each scan, with the ability to undo any changes in a single click, protecting you against the possibility of PC damage. The best part is that repairing registry errors can also dramatically improve system speed and performance.

  • Click the Start button.
  • Type "command" in the search box... DO NOT hit ENTER yet!
  • While holding CTRL-Shift on your keyboard, hit ENTER.
  • You will be prompted with a permission dialog box.
  • Click Yes.
  • A black box will open with a blinking cursor.
  • Type "regedit" and hit ENTER.
  • In the Registry Editor, select the Error 0x9C-related key (eg. Windows Operating System) you want to back up.
  • From the File menu, choose Export.
  • In the Save In list, select the folder where you want to save the Windows Operating System backup key.
  • In the File Name box, type a name for your backup file, such as "Windows Operating System Backup".
  • In the Export Range box, be sure that "Selected branch" is selected.
  • Click Save.
  • The file is then saved with a .reg file extension.
  • You now have a backup of your MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION-related registry entry.

The next steps in manually editing your registry will not be discussed in this article due to the high risk of damaging your system. If you would like to learn more about manual registry editing, please see the links below.
